About The Midlife Disciple

Where Sawdust Meets Scripture.

The Midlife Disciple is where the smell of fresh-cut lumber meets the weight of ancient truth. We believe that spiritual growth isn’t just for Sunday mornings—it happens when you’re sweating in the garden, troubleshooting a bandsaw, or trying to figure out how to lead a family in a world that’s lost its way.

We live for the created world—whether it’s the grain of a piece of walnut, the first sprout in the spring soil, or the quiet discipline of the study. But we also believe that every man in his second half of life needs a pivot: from success to significance.

Our Story: The Second Half

The Midlife Disciple was born from a literal second chance at life—a liver transplant that transformed my understanding of time.

I spent the first half of my life “playing it safe.” But waking up in a hospital bed gave me a new reality: The clock is ticking. Not in a fearful way, but in a focused way. I realized I had been given bonus time. The question wasn’t “What will I do next weekend?” but “What will I leave behind?”

From hospital corridors to the woodshop, I learned that every moment is a resource to be stewarded. When you realize how fragile life is, you stop wanting to buy cheap things and start wanting to build lasting things.

What We Are Not

Most “Christian Men’s” sites want you to be a theological scholar, a perfect husband, and have abs of steel. Most “Woodworking” sites want you to buy a $10,000 table saw and build a museum piece on your first try.

That’s… not us.

The Midlife Disciple was built for the real world—for the mistakes, the knots in the wood, the weeds in the garden, and the days when faith feels like hard work.

  • No Pinterest Perfection: We show the sawdust and the failures.
  • No Ivory Tower Theology: We talk about faith that works on a Monday.
  • No “Influencer” Nonsense: We aren’t selling a lifestyle; we’re documenting a life.

I’m Adam—your guide, fellow apprentice, and the guy who spent way too long trying to figure out how to cut a dovetail without losing his religion.

What The Midlife Disciple Stands For

Faith Without the Fluff Discipleship that works in the garage, the office, and the backyard. No Christianese jargon. Just the raw pursuit of Christ in the middle of a busy life.

Craftsmanship Over Consumerism We believe in making things, repairing things, and growing things. We reject the “buy it and trash it” culture. If we can build it, we will.

Masculine Without the Caricature This site is built for men who want resilience and tenderness in equal measure. We aren’t yelling into a camera; we’re quietly doing the work. This is the grown-up version of manhood.

Humor Required If you can’t laugh at a crooked shelf or a failed crop, you’ll go crazy. The Midlife Disciple always comes with a wink and a bit of grace.

Who This Site Is For

The Midlife Disciple is for:

  • Men in the “Second Half” who want to pivot from career climbing to legacy building.
  • Aspiring Makers who are intimidated by “perfect” Instagram woodworkers.
  • Families who want to grow their own food and their own faith.
  • Believers tired of performative religion who want something grounded.
  • Anyone who wants to slow down, work with their hands, and think deeply.

My Promise to You

Every entry in this Logbook will be:

  • Honest: I’ll share the screw-ups along with the successes.
  • Practical: Useful for the shop, the soil, or the soul.
  • Grounded: Tested by a normal guy, not a guru.

If you’re looking for a place to build REAL legacy—through faith, craft, and stewardship—without the pressure to be perfect, you’re home. Open the logbook. Let’s get to work.
